The Cosmopolitan
Considered a modern cocktail from the ’70s and made popular by the television show Sex and The City, the Cosmopolitan could arguably have roots in the ’30s as a strikingly similar cocktail has been discovered. Wherever it came from though, the sharp citrus taste has proved popular the world over. And as my girlfriend’s favourite, a must for me to learn.
Ingredients
40ml Citron vodka.
15ml Cointreau or triple sec.
15ml Fresh lime juice.
30ml Cranberry juice.
Orange peel or lime wedge.
Method
Pour all the wet ingredients into an ice-filled shaker and shake well. Strain over a martini glass and garnish with orange peel or lime wedge. A traditional topping to the cocktail is to flame a small piece of orange over the top, which supposedly releases a citrusy oil and enhances the taste.
