This Is Not Porn
Just saying.
I don’t understand how an educator can be made to feel that they should leave their profession because they showed an image of Michelangelo’s David to a class of eleven year olds, in the context of art, culture and education.
Honestly, I’d be more disturbed if a child had passed through the education system and not been shown the Renaissance artist’s beautiful work.
Don’t go castigating people for trying to educate about something that is actually worth educating about.
I would encourage anybody and everybody to visit Firenze and the plethora of art available for the public to see, much of which is completely free.
There is an identical cast of David near to the Galleria dell’Accademia outside the Palazzo della Signoria if you don’t fancy the long queue and entry fee. Yes, it’s on the street. Michelangelo’s depiction of David’s penis is on full view. In public. Those crazy Italians.
Turns out there are lots of full-frontal copies, all over the world. Including North America.
And now the depiction of David cannot be used in a cheeky advert for an Italian restaurant. What the fuck is wrong with people. Are they honestly that ignorant?
What happens when these people look down in the shower, do they censor themselves?
